In February 2017, the National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY) launched its first NNSTOY Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher Fellowship. Nominees were selected based on their efforts as teacher leaders, The invitation only one-year fellowship was created in order to contribute to the national dialogue on social emotional learning.
The Fellowship was designed to support teachers/teacher leaders in a virtual professional community as they build skills teaching social and emotional competencies by learning from experienced SEL practitioners, strengthening current instructional practices, developing new lessons and professional development in SEL pedagogy, curriculum development, and program facilitation.
During the one-year Fellowship, the selected teachers:
Participate in monthly webinars and discuss important SEL research with experienced SEL practitioners
Develop and refine SEL strategies, pedagogy and curriculum based on best practices
Collaborate with outstanding teachers through a weekly discussion forum (sponsored by the National Education Association).
Participants will receive a digital credential at the conclusion of the SEL Fellowship and will finish having gained meaningful insights, the skills and confidence needed to teach social and emotional lessons to their students, and skills to promote and lead SEL programs within their school communities and school districts.
